In July we joined a 2 week tour of Peru organised by Explore Worldwide. We were in a group of 16 chaparoned by our very able and long-suffering leader, Jonas (or “Honas”, as the spanish-speaking locals preferred to call him). The trip began in Lima where we began to find our feet, moved on to Arequipa to see the Santa Catalina monastery and condors flying in Colca Canyon, Puno on the shores of lake Titicaca to get the hang of altitude (3,800 metres) and then to the main tourist centres of Cusco and Machu Picchu for the more energetic (Carol, not me!) to walk some of the Inca Trail.
